Inflammatory responses in lungs of rats inhaling coalmine dust: enhanced proteolysis of fibronectin by bronchoalveolar leukocytes.
Chronic exposure to coalmine dust is associated with the accumulation of inflammatory leukocytes in the bronchoalveolar region of the lung and, in the long term, with fibrosis and emphysema of the lung parenchyma. Degradation of connective tissue by inflammatory leukocytes has been implicated in the parenchymal damage that precedes the development of fibrotic or emphysematous lesions in the lun...
متن کاملAnti-inflammatory effects of an inflammatory chemokine: CCL2 inhibits lymphocyte homing by modulation of CCL21-triggered integrin-mediated adhesions.
Our studies focus on the pathways that restrict homing of specific subsets of immune cells, and thereby fine-tune the immune response at specific lymphoid and peripheral tissues. Here, we report that CCL2 (at picomolar [pM] levels) renders both murine and human T cells defective in their ability to develop CCR7-triggered activation of LFA-1- and LFA-1-mediated adhesion strengthening to endothel...
متن کاملO23: Modulation of Pacemaker Channels and Rhythmic Thalamic Activity by Demyelination and Inflammatory Cytokines
The thalamus is a central element for the generation of rhythmic oscillatory activity under physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Especially slow oscillations in the delta and theta frequency band which normally occur during slow-wave sleep are associated with a number of neuropsychiatric conditions if they occur during wakefulness and may be the basis for the generation of character...
متن کاملIdentification and phenotyping of leukocytes in bovine bronchoalveolar lavage fluid.
A method is proposed to identify leukocyte subpopulations in bovine bronchoalveolar lavage fluid by dual-laser flow cytometry. The technique uses several parameters, i.e., exclusion of highly autofluorescent alveolar macrophages and inclusion of leukocytes on the basis of labeling by specific antibodies and light scatter characteristics.
متن کاملModulation of ROS production in human leukocytes by ganglioside micelles.
Recent studies have reported that exogenous gangliosides, the sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipids, are able to modulate many cellular functions. We examined the effect of micelles of mono- and trisialoganglioside GM1 and GT1b on the production of reactive oxygen species by stimulated human polymorphonuclear neutrophils using different spectroscopic methods. The results indicated that exog...
